Roger™ wireless technology

Speech intelligibility is key for effective communication. Factors that affect speech intelligibility, include background noise level, distance away from the speaker, acoustics of the environment and reverberation.

In situations where these factors affect the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), understanding speech can still be challenging. Hearing aids provide the most bene­fit when a speaker is within 1.5 meters/5 feet of the listener. As soon as the noise increases and the distance between the listener and speaker becomes greater, additional technology is needed to maintain speech intelligibility and understanding while overcoming both distance and noise.

Hearing in noise

This is where Roger comes in to boost hearing aid performance. Roger microphones have been developed to reduce background noise and transmit the speaker’s voice directly to hearing aids or cochlear implant sound processors. This enables your clients to fully participate in group conversations even in very noisy environments such as restaurants, meetings at work and school activities.

RogerDirect™

RogerDirect is an industry-first from Phonak that allows Roger microphones to stream directly to the hearing aids. After an installation of the receiver into the hearing aid, clients benefit from the proven performance of Roger, in noise and over distance1. This major innovation makes Roger technology easier to use and more attractive for a broader group ranging from mild to profound hearing loss.

 

Adaptive behavior

Roger technology makes use of intelligent and adaptive algorithms that continuously measure and precisely analyze noise levels to keep the Roger signal clearly audible above the background noise. This advanced dynamic behavior has led to significant improvements in speech recognition in noise, especially at higher noise levels. Hearing aid users understand almost 10 times better with Roger technology in noise and over distance than people with normal hearing.1

 
 
 

MultiBeam Technology / MultiBeam 2.0 Technology


By utilizing multiple microphones in six directions, speech from 360 degrees is calculated and compared. The direction with the best signal-to-noise ratio is automatically selected. Speech understanding improves up to 61% in a group conversation in 75dBa of noise compared to using hearing aids alone2

MultiBeam 2.0 Technology is the newest generation to provide spatial information and stereo sound. By recognizing if the speech is coming from the left or the right side, this spatial information supports clients in conversations.  

 

MultiTalker Network

Unique to Roger and fully automatic, the MultiTalker Network allows several Roger microphones to be used together, providing hearing impaired listeners with access to multiple talkers in any situation.

How to demo Roger

Live demonstration is the key to start the conversation with your patients. We find that the best demos include three things.

  • First, a little speaker to play some background noise
  • Second, talk to them through the mic as you walk away down the hall and back
  • Third, include a family member, so they can also hear the difference
